Altenew Build-A-Flower: Daffodil Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Hello, fellow Altenew fans!  It's time for another amazing Build-A-Flower release!  If you're hopping along, you might be visiting me from the amazing Lydia Evans.  If you're jumping in here, you can start back at the Altenew Card Blog for all the details.  I also have the entire blog hop list at the end of this post in case you've missed anyone!

This month, Altenew has introduced a gorgeous layered Daffodil.  Daffodils are always the first bright, happy peek at spring color in my neck of the woods (and the deer don't eat them, which is also a HUGE plus around here), so these pretty blooms always make me smile.

One thing I love about stamping, however, is that we don't have to follow the rules of nature when creating.  We can make flowers any color and pair them with any flower we want, even if they typically wouldn't be found together.  So I decided to challenge myself to make different bouquets and vignettes with this new stamp, combining different Altenew sets to make pretty floral arrangements.  I hope to give you some tips here on how to combine your stamp sets to make your own custom images!

For my first card, I thought I'd keep my scene to just these gorgeous daffodils.   Using masks, I stamped out a pretty garden of daffodils using the outline images and Altenew Limestone ink.  And ignoring the fact that daffodils are typically yellow, I colored them in shades of aqua and lavender using my Altenew Artist Markers and Copic markers.  I stamped the sentiment from the Build-A-Flower Daffodil set and die cut the word "Welcome" from Altenew's Script Words 3 Die set.  I cut the sentiment three more times and layered them all together to create dimension.

I added some gold stitching around the panel and this card was finished!

For my next three cards, I combined the Daffodil set with different Altenew sets to create my own custom images.  For this card, I combined the Daffodils with Altenew's Hope and Garden Treasure Sets.  To create this look, since I knew I was only using ink as my coloring medium, I searched through my stamp sets to find images that had similar solid layered images.  I stamped all the blooms using Altenew Inks, then took a card base and cut off the top half at about the halfway point.  I layered all the flowers over this shortened piece and adhered them down.  I then cut the "Hello" sentiment from Altenew's Blooming Bouquet set, layered several of them together, and adhered it down, adding stitching around the die cut for interest.

For my next card, I combined the Daffodil set with Altenew's Beautiful Day and Perfectly Perfect Sets.  I knew I wanted to watercolor these images, so I selected my blooms from stamp sets that had outline images with lines about the same width.

After stamping out my panel using masks, I watercolored the images using my Altenew Watercolor Pan Set and watercolor brush markers.  I love that even though you would ordinarily wouldn't see all these flowers together in nature, you can combine them in your own way to make your own arrangements in any colors you choose!

For my last card, I again chose images with similarly-styled outline images from the Daffodil set and Altenew's Garden Treasure stamp set.

I wanted to make something more fall-like for this card.  After watercoloring the images again using my Altenew Watercolor Pan Set, I added details using both watercolor brush markers and colored pencils.  I added some subtle watercoloring to a base panel and stamped my sentiment.  I then fussy cut out my arrangement and popped it up with foam tape to create dimension.

I hope you enjoyed these projects!  I can't wait to make more custom arrangements - I had SO much fun making these cards!
